Microsoft as design inspiration?

I never thought I would be one to drool over a page designed in Redmond, but I have to admit the Windows Vista product site is a thing of beauty…though not unexpectedly it doesn’t render quite right in Firefox.

From the fonts, to the gradients, to the reflections you can clearly see that they’re keeping up with the current fads, but at least to me this piece adds a certain depth and richness to web 2.0 design that I can’t quite place my finger on. In particular I like the layering in this image
